Dear Friends,
It's only 6 weeks until
Miss M's due date...
I cannot stop thinking about
all the changes that will take
place in Paisley's life.
(way more than more own!)
For those of you who have 2 (or more)
children, or who are about to have 2 or
more children I need your help! Please!
I do not want to read any books
or research information on the internet
when I know the best resource out there
for me, are my mommy friends and
their own stories and experiences...
So, this is what I want to know
from your own personal experience:
1. How did you introduce the new baby
to your oldest child?
2. Did you exchange any big sister/brother ~
little sister/brother presents?
3. Did you do anything special for
the older sibling when you came home
from the hospital/birthing center that
was helpful with the transition of having
the new baby in the house?
4. What was the biggest help to you in those
first few crazy weeks/months???
5. Any other tips or suggestions for staying sane
or helping with the transition????
Please comment here on the blog...
or if you feel more comfortable emailing
me your tips, I would love to hear from YOU!
Merci!
xoxo,
Melissa

Hi. I found you on the Mom Blog Network. My boys are 22 months apart. As we got closer to the due date, I gave my son a doll to teach him gentle, but since you have a girl, she probably has lots of dolls. My son would sit with me to feed his baby as I fed mine.
I didn't give him a gift from the baby, but I got him a gift because he was now a big brother. My mom came for three weeks to help with the baby so Evan had lots of extra attention. I also bought a few little gifts to give him when people arrive to see the new baby and bring baby gifts, but I didn't need them because everyone brought gifts for both boys. Because Sean slept a lot at first, Evan got all his attention and wasn't jealous.
Oh and as for introducing Evan to Sean, well, Grandma psyched him up and brought Evan to the hospital. Evan also got to help pick out flowers for mommy and decorate the house for the homecoming.
I hope that helped. Good luck.
Gorgeous pic BFF. I commented on your fb too. xoxo
I've done this a few times. I have 4 kids now & each kid is different. However, here are some things that helped overall:
* bought a baby doll to help teach about how to hold a baby
* had big sib(s) buy baby a gift
* got big sib(s) something special
* big sib(s) got to hold baby in the hospital (with adult help) & got pictures taken of them. the focus was on how awesome it was on being a big sib!
* made sure big sib(s) got special alone time with us.
* talked about the baby before the due date as if he/she was already here (i.e. Mamasita will like that won't she Mr. J?). & about how special/cool/great it was to have a sib.
*would read to big sib(s) when feeding baby, have them help sing a song when changing & involve them in "helping"
*i found having hubby around during the first few weeks was hugely important
*also stocking up the freezer & pantry with easy to make items (make 2 meals, freeze 1) saved us a lot of headache
*keeping a basket nearby of needed baby items (dipes, wipes, breast pads etc...) helped me a ton, i could move the basket to different rooms too. i didn't have to move from room to room to take of baby
good luck & congrats!!
